OUR TOY HOSPITAL MISSION

The Montreal Toy and Doll Hospital, in collaboration with Guillotine Restoration & Design (guillotine. ca and Insta: @ GuillotineMTL), is working on reducing plastic waste through the restoration and resale of plastic toys and dolls.

Guillotine is award winning and renowned for their fibre arts and during the pandemic, directed their attention to the massive waste created by the toy industry. In collaboration with Mattel Creations and Rapalapa, Guillotine took over restoration of all plastics, composition, resin, antiques and museum pieces.

Under the supervision of Canadian artist Danniel Oickle (dannieloickle. com), Guillotine Restoration & Design has rescued hundreds of Barbies, MGA dolls, and pounds of plastic from being added to the growing plastic crisis. Currently working towards a non-profit designation, since its founding in 2015, Guillotine has been involved in repurposing materials and environmental causes.

In an effort to fund its continued war on plastic, we sell specific pieces through eBay, our main collection through our website, private commission, and art exhibitions. Although our prices are premium, we do accept any reasonable offers. All sales are considered a donation to the MTL Toy Hospital to continue its work. We also accept any and all donations of dolls and doll clothing - in all conditions. Whatever cannot be repurposed of restored, we return to Mattel for recycling through a private cyclical business model that is currently being spearheaded at Mattel.

Beginning in 2022, we will be launching our own line of redesigned designer Barbie dolls. Using vintage dolls restored in our Montreal studio and dressed in couture one-of-a-kind fashions made by the international award winning Guillotine design team, each doll includes a doll stand, history, and custom COA signed by lead designer Danniel Oickle. With prices beginning as low as $75 CND, our pieces have already garnered much interest and auctions resulting in prices upwards of $1,000. You can be certain that every dollar spent on a Guillotine doll contributes directly to our mission to reduce plastic waste.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are interested in a Guillotine Designer Collection Barbie simply for the fashion with the intent to toss the doll, please contact us for a “fashion only” price. With our goal to reduce plastic, we understand that our fashions are desirable to collectors, but we do not want the dolls returned to waste. As such, we can do custom or fashion only auctions at a reasonable price. Also, as Guillotine is a fashion design company, we can also create our doll designs for humans.
