Vintage Purinton Pottery Pig Cookie Jar

7 inches tall. This pig cookie jar was made by Purinton Pottery, a Pennsylvania company best known for their slip ware serving pieces and dinnerware hand-decorated with fruit designs. They made only a few figural cookie jars - this pig, a rooster, a Humpty Dumpty and a Howdy Doody head. All are very hard to find, but I think this is the hardest....especially with the lid. This pig shows signs of use - there are chips on his toes and a small one on his lid, along with some stained crazing inside where the cookie were, but overall, he great considering his age.

ABOUT OUR COOKIE JARS

These are all from our personal collection of cookie jars. We had great fun traveling around New York State, Pennsylvania and Ohio between 1991 and 2001 amassing a collection of American-made pottery cookie jars, mostly from the 1950s and1960s. We decided that these jars would be better served prominently displayed in someone else’s home than housed on shelves in our dark basement. We were never sticklers about condition on hard-to-find items. Cookie jars were made to be utilitarian vessel that sat on family kitchen countertops to be plundered daily by clumsy, young hands. If the jar was hard to find, a fair price and looked good on a shelf, we considered it’s factory flaws and bits of damage to be part of it’s history. We have attempted to document these imperfections in our photos and descriptions. Feel free to ask questions and request additional photos. All items are guaranteed to be originals - NO REPROS.
