Stabilised Horse Chestnut Burr Handle Block.

They are approx. 27x54x122mm.

These are some of my all time favourite pieces with incredible figure all the way through. Please select your colour and which block number you’d like with the drop down boxes.

stabilising is the process of forcing a particular type of resin deep into the pores of the wood using vacuum chambers and pressure pots and a lot of patience! This hardens the wood a little and makes it far more resistant to moisture. Adding dye to that resin colours the wood all the way though the block nice and evenly. All the pattern is natural and comes from the grain of the wood.

The market has recently been flooded with low quality stabilised wood thanks to cheap vacuum chambers and YouTube diy videos making people think it’s easy, and it is, but to do it properly takes a bit of knowledge, decent equipment and a long time. I don’t claim to be the best, far from it, but I did start of with one of those diy kits and after a few years of practise and upgrading my equipment I can confidently say these are stabilised to a high quality standard. Each batch takes around 2 weeks to stabilise plus time cutting and kiln drying before they go in the resin.
