Rare Antique Complete Torah Bible Scroll On Deer Parchment
Approximately 150-200 yrs old from india/Iraq.
In an impressive original cover made of copper-plated wood.
Torahs history- originally owened by Sefaradic Iraqis Jewish merchants that travelled to India. the case is tradition Iraqi designs made in India, According to the documentation of the dedication's inscription on the case, it was dedicated in 1878.
Highly sought after by collectors a Complete Sefer Torah Scroll (the 5 books of Moses) Approximately 150-200 yrs old from india. The 5 Books, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers & Deuteronomy are all hand written in the ancient original Hebrew language and script on deer parchment.Written with black ink on gevil, (i.e. parchment made from the whole hide rather than split, processed for writing on the hair side only, and prepared with a mixture of salt, flour and mey afatzim [wasp residue/gall-nut water] resulting in the typical brown color of a Spanish Torah Scroll;). All section tightly sewn with natural animal string called "Giddin which is made from the leg sinews of a kosher animal. Occasional erasures or patches with corrected text clearly written over, occasional defects in sewing between membranes, sometimes repaired by vellum patches on verso, occasional tears. Complete scrolls of this age are seldom seen in synagogues or available due to their age. The scroll considering its age is preserved and in good condition and will stay beautiful with care for centuries to come. I am not listing this scroll as kosher which does not effect the beauty of this scroll. Description of the case: the case is tradition Iraqi designs made in India Highly sought after by collectors, made of wood covered with copper fastened with nails, the upper part is designed as a crown and inside 2 glass panels and the documentation of the names of the consecrator According to the documentation of the dedication's inscription on the case, it was dedicated in 1878.
The condition: on the outside it is covered with copper tin, relatively in good condition for its age with the exception of signs of use and wear, the top of the crown is crushed, on the inside it is wood covered with original blue cloth, there are signs of defects and holes in the wood, probably from the woodworm. There are the 2 dedication plaques and the inscription inside, it on the left side The inscription is slightly different. There are signs of repair in the glass, probably replaced and restored over the years.
Dimensions: 1 meters high, 90 cm in circumference (39" x 35").

There is also a beautiful Yad Torah Pointer made of old Brass including a record of the Makkadish.
