THIS IS A WONDERFUL AND RARE ORIGINAL BROOCH BY BJORN WECKSTROM FOR LAPPONIA OF FINLAND ENTITLED STRANGER ON LO FROM THE SPACE SERIES, DATED 1982 - A SCANDINAVIAN FINNISH MID-CENTURY MODERNIST DREAM PIECE! RARE AND WONDERFUL!!!!
A museum quality genuine Lapponia brooch from Finland by Bjorn Weckstrom from his Space
Series entitled "Stranger on Lo" dated 1982. The Space Silver Series began in 1969 ~ a series with strange sculpted water and landscapes with human figures lost or striving. They are reminiscent of dreams - so perhaps 'dreamscape' is a good description..
This amazing modernist brooch depicts a man standing alone in an alien landscape. It is sculptural and very provocative. There is a very clever and subtle element of optical illusion. Viewed front-on the figure appears to be facing towards you, when viewed from the side the figure appears to be facing away from you.
The piece is signed on the reverse bearing the date mark E8 for 1982 and carries all the Lapponia hallmarks.
It measures 1 3/4" wide by 1 7/16" tall (45mm x 37mm).
On the reverse it secures with a barrel type push safety clasp for absolutely secure wear.
In total it weighs 17 grams.
Like so much of the best modernist jewelry design it has a unisex appeal to it.
I am a huge fan of Bjorn Weckstrom's designs. They are beautiful heirloom quality collectibles and versatile accessories for any jewelry wardrobe.
Condition: Used in very good vintage condition, ready to wear. We have left the patina intact but the brooch can certainly be polished if desired.
