GOD APOLLO SILVER PENDANT

Apollo is one of the Olympian deities in classical Greek and Roman religion and Greek and Roman mythology. The national divinity of the Greeks, Apollo has been recognized as a god of archery, music and dance, truth and prophecy, healing and diseases, the Sun and light, poetry, and more. One of the most important and complex of the Greek gods, he is the son of Zeus and Leto, and the twin brother of Artemis, goddess of the hunt. Seen as the most beautiful god and the ideal of the kouros (ephebe, or a beardless, athletic youth), Apollo is considered to be the most Greek of all the gods. Apollo is known in Greek-influenced Etruscan mythology as Apulu.

Stater Coin of King Philip II of Macedon Silver Pendant in A Meander Frame-Apollo God of Light,Music,Healing- Charioteer-Ancient Greece The real stater coin was made of gold. It was struck in the name of Alexander the Great's father, King Philip II. From the Pella mint, birthplace of Philip and Alexander, circa 340 - 328 BC. The obverse depicts an unusually refined, youthful portrait of the god Apollo, shown with unruly hair, deep set eyes and wearing laurel wreath. The reverse shows Philip II in a biga (two horse chariot) racing right, the horses rearing and snarling as Philip grips the reins in his left hand and raises his goad with his right.

The Greek legend below reads: FILIPPOU "Of Philip" Trident head beneath horse's legs. Philip II of Macedon, best known as the father of Alexander the Great, was an accomplished king and military commander in his own right. His coinage was issued to finance soldiers and recruit mercenaries, and as a result spread far beyond Greece. Philip II is the first Macedonian king who took the title of Olympic Victor, and indeed thrice over, thanks to his swift and able horses. At the Olympic Games of 356 BC he won the horse-racing contest (the keles). The king was so proud that he represented his horses on his coins.

Gold coins with the obverse and reverse images of Philip's famous staters continued to be struck long after his death. Indeed, his beautiful, high purity coinage had such an influence on the ancient people that encountered them that they were imitated by the Northern European Celts for hundreds of years thereafter.
