For sale an Antique Japanese Porcelain Kutani Vase from the Late Meiji period (1900-1915 approx)


Beautifully decorated vase in the traditional Japanese Kutani style feayuring red & Gold colouration. The vase depicts geisha girls, mountain and water scenes, a Matsumura potters mark to base.


Kutani means Nine Valleys in Japanese and refers to the area in which this style originated, around 1655.

A pair of Foo dog handles sit either side of the neck which serve as guardians, an idea borrowed by the Japanese from Chinese mythology.


Vase approx 11 1/2" tall by 5 1/2" at widest point.



Vase has a hairline crack running from the base to about the middle of the vase, a small hairline crack also present to the rim, price reflects this damage, please see photos for detail. No further chips or cracks & glaze/decoration in good condition.
