Pair of wonderful figurines, depicting the legendary Guanyin.. Guanyin is a Bodhisattva associated with compassion. She is the East Asian representation of Avalokiteśvara and has been adopted by other Eastern religions including Chinese folk religion. She was first given the appellation of "Goddess of Mercy" or "Mercy Goddess" by Jesuit missionaries in China. Guanyin is short for Guanshiyin, which means "[The One Who] Perceives the Sounds of the World." On the 19th day of the sixth lunar month, Guanyin's attainment of Buddhahood is celebrated.

Here, we see her holding a lotus flower. These finely made figures stand raised on a lotus flower encrusted
base and are modeled wearing flowing garments with beaded necklaces and beads in their hair and holding
and supporting a flowering lotus stem in one hand. The figures are exceptionally well defined with excellent
detail with a wonderful blanc de chine finish.
