~ Welcome to William Sharpe Antiques ~

Here today for your consideration we have this superb Edwardian sterling silver cigarette case, featuring British sterling silver import marks for Cohen & Charles of London, c-1913. The case is of rare triple-layer form and double-clasped design, being of very good quality throughout. Condition is good used, with a few knocks and dents evident to the exterior and some minor wear to the internal gilding in places. Both clasps work as intended, with the hinges operating smoothly. The case is engraved with Newmarracarra to one face and the signature WMKG for Walter McKenzie Grant to the other, being hallmarked in several places throughout. A very unusual and fine piece of antique sterling silver with Australian pastoral provenance.

Contained, the case measures 8.5cm x 7.5cm and is 2.5cm thick. Unpacked, it weighs in at a generous 245gms.

Newmarracarra Homestead (refer final photo) is a c-1887 stone mansion in the Geraldton region of Western Australia, built by a Mr. J. P. Grant. Upon his death in 1897, the large pastoral landholding was split amongst his five sons, with Walter McKenzie Grant holding ownership of Newmarracarra until the 1930's. Today, Newmarracarra is still used as a farming property with the original homestead still standing.

Sterling silver offered at William Sharpe Antiques is original and authentic, showing signs of use over its life. Unless expressly stated above, all pieces are free from major structural damage. However, normal signs of use including shallow depressions, fine scratches, and minor pattern and hallmark wear should be expected. All pieces (unless expressly stated above) have undertaken a very light polish with respect to the original patina, and a decision for further polishing will be left to the new custodian. I have a large network in which I can currently source silver, so if there is a special piece you are looking for, please don't hesitate to get in contact, either through eBay or through my Facebook page.

Please note that items listed (unless otherwise advertised) are antiques and are not brand new. As such, evidence of use should be expected and returns will not be accepted on the basis of typical age-related wear and tear that can be seen within the above photos, which form part of the item description.
