Photograph Notes: When this was a school, the outside walls had a different appearance - a past pupil, Theresa Forsyth, has posted this image to another site http://www.cotyroneireland.com/schools/cavanacaw.html The building had cream coloured smooth plastered walls and the windows were either steel with small panes or timber sliding sash types, and the area was extended, so the only original feature of the building is the salvaged plaque You entered the school through a porch with a cloakroom area. The inside consisted of a single room which could be divided in two areas by a timber folding partition with glazed panels at head height. They were heated by open fires and the teachers and pupils near the front got the most heat. In the winter time, frozen bottles of milk were brought in from the playground to thaw out. The bigger boys were sent to McCaffrey's well to fetch the daily water supply. There was separate outside toilets for the staff and boys and girls. There is a plaque on the opposite gable [[[1050255]]]
