If you are perverse enough to want to take up film photography, and you are a fan of Nikon lenses, then you couldn't do better than an F5.

The F5 was Nikon’s penultimate film camera, succeeded in 2004 by the F6.  The F6 was really just an incremental step from the F5, a bit like updating your iPhone 6 to an iPhone 7.  The F6 was a little lighter in weight and incorporated a creative lighting system, but everything else was marginal; so, many stuck with the old model.  The F5 is a paragon of interchangeability: the battery pack, camera back, viewfinder, and focussing screens can all be customized with a variety of Nikon replacement parts in order to optimize the camera for particular applications.

This F5 body is fitted with a Brightscreen 20/20 focussing screen, which functions exactly like the standard Nikon Ec-B screen except that it provides a much brighter image, which aids in manual focussing applications.  Brightscreen would appear to no longer make screens for 35mm SLRs.  The original Nikon Ec-B screen is also included with this sale, if you prefer to use the standard screen.  

This F5 body was purchased new from Nikon in 1998 and used by an amateur photographer until 2003 (minimal shutter wear).  Since then, it has been unused.  I checked it with a roll of film and everything works OK.  The camera body has no dents or scratches or signs of wear.  It is very clean, internally and externally, and is truly in “Like New” condition.  

The camera is supplied in the original Nikon box together with the manual.  The manual has been well read, and salient points have been highlighted in yellow and orange highlighter (an example page is shown in the photographs).  The manual is, however, complete and intact, as is the spine of the book.  In addition to the Brightscreen focussing screen fitted to the camera, the original Nikon Ec-B focussing screen is included.

The camera body will be shipped (double boxed) in the original manufacturers packaging, which includes a fitted, polystyrene box-insert.
