Photograph Notes: Known in popular parlance as 'the Sheep's Heid', this public house claims to be the oldest known pub in Scotland. Tradition has it that it was established around the mid-14th century. The name comes from the story that James VI, who played skittles in the yard, gifted a snuff box to the landlord which was either embellished with, or in the shape of a ram's head. The present-day pub still has a fully functioning skittle alley which has changed little since it was built in 1882. It is a popular watering-hole for walkers roaming through the Queen's Park.
