Heard to star in the description of this elaborately decorated candle holder.
Three candles of diameter just under 0.5” are slotted into three fixed candle holders. One vertical central and the other two, one at each extremity of the arm, They are fixed in place at angles and cannot move.
The arms are Classic Art Nouveau curves and scrolls. The stem is plain at the top descending onto a knop, below which is a short circular column . Then the real design kicks in
Spirals curve downwards to the base in open faced rivulets which allows the wax to form intricate patterns across and below. They level out onto a brief shoulder before six steeper curves are interspersed with more scrolls and fruits. In each case the curves act as a channel for wax to run away further down the foot.
Clearly the designer intended on getting a macabre look to the decoration which would be enhanced by the melting wax as it forms and runs away to the foot.
This is clearly a well designed and thought out candle holder. As a centre piece surrounded by whatever, it enhances the whole table or sideboard.
Not a trifle and of great substance.
Clearly some plate wear which enhances the patina. Only people who are serious about their designs should think about purchasing this fabulous item.
