This French antique rosary tells of somebody's story in his/her Christian journey. It is also somebody's remembrance on his/her receiving the First Communion rites. Everything in this beautiful rosary is in sterling silver. Receiving the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist is attested by a sterling medal that is dated May 19, 1874. There is also another sterling small crucifix that might have been gifted when given the sacraments of Baptism or Confirmation. (For example, I was given a gilded necklace with a crucifix pendant on my baptism by my Godmother). In my studies on the subject of rosaries, I have found out that a rosary is a tool not just for prayers, but it also tell of one's journey in life. Rosaries like this in my collection are kept as is as I would like to respect the original form by which it was found. The next custodian can possibly add your own story on this rosary.
Aside from being accessorised by beautiful elaborate sterling cappings on the crcucifix's ends......this rosary is also connected by special CHI RHO medals or Ave Maria medal connectors:
The CHI RHO symbol is characterised by the two Greek letters Chi and Rho superimposed on each other. In Christianity, the Chi Rho symbol then refers to Christ or Christos in Greek. This Chi Rho connector medal thus feature the image of Christ on the other side. It is to be noted that the Chi Rho symbol in this rosary also incorporates the first Greek alphabet ALPHA and the last Greek alphabet OMEGA. In Christianity and in the Book of Revelation, Revelation 22:13 Christ said: "I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last." There are many readings on these symbols if you want to further understand them.
The other medal connector features the monogram AVM, for Ave Maria. The reverse side features the image of the Blessed Mother.

Medal with scallop edge: is also hallmarked engraved with: " First Communion Varasse May 19, 1874"
Beads: are made of mother of pearl. Pater beads are approximately 8mm, Ave beads 5-6mm.
All pearl beads are handmade not machine-made thus the irregular size of the beads.
