Lot of 6 beautiful vintage watercolor/gouache hand-colored lithographs of French Napoleonic soldiers on horseback by Eugene Pechaubes (French, 1890-1967). Eugene Pechaubes is perhaps best known for his paintings and prints of equestrian scenes, such as horse racing, hunting, and Napoleonic soldiers on horseback. This lot of 6 lithographs include depictions of the following: Colonel-General des Dragons, General Commander une Brigade de Carabiniers, 1st Empire Garde Imperiale Trompette du 2c Lanciers, 1st Empire Trompette du 1c Cuirassier, 1st Empire Trompette des Dragons de la Garde, and 1st Empire Garde Imperiale Trompette des Guides. Printed titles and signatures. Lithographs are printed on textured paper and are unmatted and unframed. Each lithograph measures approximately 8" x 10" (they appear to be cut unevenly). Age of lithographs is unknown. Lithographs appear to be in good used condition with signs of age and wear, such as fading, yellowing, soiling, stains, creases, stray paint marks, abrasions and rub marks, other stray marks, some waviness to the paper, sticker residue on backs, and wear on edges and corners. The lithograph of the Colonel-General des Dragons has a small puncture between the “e” and “s” in the printed Pechaubes signature. Original prices and inventory numbers appear to be penciled on the backs of lithographs. Estate sale find. Hand-colored lithographs would look fantastic matted and framed!
