Photograph Notes: Straight ahead the nicely rounded Middle Knoll and its reflection give a realm of beauty to this mucky puddle! The water works building can be seen to the left. To the right of this building, on the slope of Middle Knoll, the track forks leading to Brennand Farm on the left and Whitendale hamlet to the right. In line of sight above the water works building on the southwest slope of Middle Knoll, one can see the old miners' terrace track gradually climbing up the lower slope of Middle Knoll towards the left edge of the picture. This former miners' track branches off the Brennand farm vehicle track a short distance from the former mentioned fork branch in the road. The farm track continues down to the bottom of the valley below the miners' track. I should mention to the right of the water works building a tree can be seen. Not far beyond this tree as we see it here are two bridges one either side of the tree. The first bridge to the left of the tree takes the road over the Brennand River where the railings can be seen. The second bridge to the right of the tree can be seen with an almost square section of light and shadow passing under it. This second bridge crosses the Whitendale River giving access to forestry tracks. So at this Y junction there are three rivers: up the stem the River Dunsop; the left fork the Brennand River and the right fork the Whitendale River. The road after crossing the Brennand River bridge continues on for a short distance closely parallel with the west side of the Whitendale River. It then bears left to climb the lower slope of Middle Knoll (where it can be seen on the photo) to branch at the fork leading either side of Middle Knoll. The fork in the road can just be discerned at the top end of the snaking track road.
