Six Australian Made Mid Century Modern Teak and Merino Wool Dining Chairs.

These are a unique set of mid century chairs manufactured  in Melbourne by a firm called Loniform. Made for an upmarket celebrity dining room or the BHP boardroom., they were manufactured in the sixties or seventies when phone numbers briefly changed from six to seven digits. The design of the chairs  is simple with elements of Danish lines in the arms and back, and Australian elegance in the choice of upholstery and no nonsense unadorned straight legs. They are incredibly comfortable and just the right seating for long challenging dinner parties with lots of courses, changes of wine and cocktails. We love these chairs. We bought them from Melbourne and shipped them up to Armidale in rural  NSW. They sat around an oval G-Plan extension table and  were a pleasure to both look at and sit in for the last 25 years. We have had great  dinner parties and have turned fifty and sixty on them.

The chairs are in excellent condition. The wood is teak and is undamaged. It has a soft stain finish and a wonderful patina. The maroon merino upholstery is original and un-faded. The tessellations in the seat and backrest are well defined showing the quality of the foam infill. You can see the quality of the carpentry underneath and all the joints are currently solid and accessible for expert  repair well into this and perhaps the next century. They look like that  have just come from the show room, but with the dignity of a fifty year old artist.

We have treasured these chairs and hope they will move on the grace thee dining room of another beautifully furnished house.
