THE TRISKELION SYMBOL: WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

Taken from the Greek word "Triskeles" meaning "three legs", the Triskele or Triple Spiral is a complicated old Celtic symbol. Its earliest creation, which may be seen near the gateway to Newgrange in Ireland, dates back to the Neolithic age and is frequently referred to as a triskelion. From 500 BC onward, the Triskele became more common in Celtic culture. This ancient symbol is one of the trickiest to interpret because symbolists think it reflects various aspects of the civilization of the time.

First of all, the three arms of the triskele are arranged to give the impression that they are moving outward from the centre, representing motion. Movement, or motion, is thought to represent energy, particularly the motion of action, cycles, progress, revolution, and competition within this Celtic Symbol.

The precise symbolic meaning of the triskele's three arms is the second and more difficult subject for symbolists. There are many different interpretations of what these three extensions of the triple helix sign mean because this can vary depending on the time period, culture, mythology, and history.

Life-death-rebirth, spirit-mind-body, mother-father-child, past-present-future, power-intellect-love, and creation-preservation-destruction are only a few of these implications.

It is believed that by combining these two concepts, the Celtic triskele can have one meaning. It is thought to tell a story of progress towards understanding. But this isn't the only interpretation; it's also said to stand for three Celtic worlds: the celestial world, the present world, and the spiritual world. Similar to the traditional Trinity knot, the number 3 has special significance in the triskele.

The triskele's significance is complex, nuanced, and open to various interpretations. This Celtic emblem is far more intricate than the others and is prominently featured in contemporary Celtic jewellery. Most notably as Celtic brooches, earrings, pendants, or charms.
