Mullein's one of my favorite herbs. Since it doesn't grow where I was born, I collected it when I visited where I live now and dried the leaves on the dash of my car during the trip home. It helps me with my breathing, sinuses and any infections. I take it in tea, which is best mixed with other herbs, and can be used as a gargle, for toothache, and for washing open sores. I put the dried leaves in olive oil for an oil that helps with an amazing number of needs. It is good for soothing and relieving pain, encouraging urination, relieving irritation, calming spasms, healing wounds, softening and smoothing skin, healing chest diseases such as asthma, croup, bronchitis, lung affections, hay fever diarrhea, bleeding of the bowels, and can help heal hemorroids, ulcers, tumors, mumps, acute inflammation of the tonsils, and sore throat as well as any glandular swelling, edema, colds, swollen joints, . The roots are used to help with asthma if it is burned and the fumes inhaled. A tea made from the flowers can induce sleep, relieve pain, and can act as a laxative in high doses. The fresh flowers may be crushed to remove warts. For swollen testicles or scrotum, apply fomentations for one hour 3 or 4 times a day from the tea made from 1 ounce of mullein and 1 ounce of sanicle herb in 2 quarts of water for 15 minutes. This can be used for any swelling or bad sores.
If you are outside, use the soft leaves like to or a disposable hanky!
PLEASE DO NOT PLANT THEM IN POTTING SOIL. THEY DON'T LIKE IT, JUST GIVE UP AND DIE! They prefer just regular old dirt - nothing fancy.
