This is a silent news film compilation of World War II footage from approximately March-June, 1942 (Castle Films # 141), depicting the activities leading up to, including, and after American General James Doolittle's bombing raid on Tokyo, Japan. Intertitles are as follows: -Yanks Bomb Tokyo! -Yank’s “Shangri-la” revealed! The U.S. Navy Aircraft Carrier Hornet heads for Japan on a dangerous mission! -A protecting force of cruisers and destroyers drives through the angry South Pacific! -Sixteen B-25 Mitchell bombers on the flight deck! -Capt. Marc Mitscher, once decorated by Japan, returns his medal via “The Doolittle Route”! -As take-off time nears, the courageous crews recall intensive training “back home” – - -- when they again and again practiced bombing “Tokyo”! -Closer and closer they approach the danger zone! -A Jap patrol boat is sighted – and blasted from the sea – - -- but its radio already warned Nippon! -Admiral [William “Bull”] Halsey in command! -The take-off is ordered 10 hours ahead of time! -Aloft they go, to give Tokyo its first taste of American vengeance! [April 18, 1942] -The first U.S. Army bombers ever to be launched from a carrier at sea! -Another bomber takes off – loses altitude – drops dangerously – but the pilot takes it through! -The planes sweep in – with military bases as their only targets! -These Jap-made air raid practice scenes were taken in Tokyo BEFORE American airmen attacked Nippon! -In practice, their defense system proves disorganized! -In China, heroes of the raid are decorated by Mme. Chiang Kai-shek -Later General [Henry “Hap”] Arnold honors survivors who return to America -General [James] Doolittle wins Congressional Medal of Honor -Barbarous Jap war-bandits who boast of executing captured American fliers! -Air-Chief Gen. Arnold assures Jap’s treachery will be avenged! -Tokyo Raiders! Captains T.W. [Ted W.] Lawson and H.F. [Harold F.] Watson tell reporters of the daring exploit! -“If there is any way we can get even – we’ll try our best!” Captain Lawson
