Notes on buying the right mirror:
Because of the variety
of options on mirrors, it’s impossible to determine if a specific mirror will
work on a specific vehicle without looking at (a) the wiring connector and (b)
the mounting scheme.
Most vehicles use mirrors
from GENTEX. GENTEX mirrors will have 2 model numbers. The
first is a 6-digit number, such as 026006. The second is a 7-character
code that starts with GNTX, such as GNTX 453. Sometimes there is a third
number, which is usually, but not always, unique to a specific vehicle
manufacturer.
Even matching these 2
numbers is not enough to be sure that the mirror will work in your vehicle.
Please look at the mount
that connects your mirror to the windshield. Most vehicle manufactures
use a standard slide mount. However, a few don’t. Ford notably
often uses a unique mount.
Most importantly, look
at the wiring connection. Although you can remove the connector in
your vehicle and splice in a new pigtail, this is a lot more work then just
plugging your existing connector into your new mirror.
