Heartnuts, grown in Ypres / Ieper, Belgium.

These nuts can be eaten or used for making crafty decorations. The flavour is like a walnut, but less bitter.

Planting is NOT recommended as these trees can only be guaranteed to produce heartnuts from grafted stock.
We cannot give advice on planting, stratification or grafting.

These nuts have hard shells which lend themselves to jewellery making.

The nuts will in principle crack around the edge, falling into two halves like a locket. Do not use a nutcracker - there will be a lot of shrapnel. Tap the side of the nut gently with a hammer until you hear a "tick" sound. Then pry the nut open by inserting a knife at the pointy end of the nut.

At the moment we have Schubert in stock, from the autumn 2023 harvest.

SCHUBERT: The largest of the nuts. An average one weighs 5-6 grams.

Please bear in mind these are natural products, no single two are exactly the same so the size of our nuts can vary.
