Photograph Notes: A re-enactment of the Battle of Philiphaugh took place in a field next to the Philiphaugh Salmon Viewing Centre on the 13th and 14th of August 2011 where 200 �troops� in period dress took part in an impressive and realistic display. More than 30 Bavarian re-enactors from the Wallenstein Group travelled over from Germany to take part. Fighting displays with swords and pikes and the sound of musket volleys and cannon fire entertained the crowd. Visitors could wander through a Living History Camp where displays on the work of the barber surgeon and spit roast cooking at the camp kitchen were on show. The Battle of Philiphaugh was fought on the 13th September 1645 between a Covenanter army led by General Sir David Leslie who defeated a Royalist army led by the Marquis of Montrose.
