This bookend was produced in 1937 by D. Martini and was originally part of a pair which consisted of a horse and rider on one and these dogs on the other.

It’s a great piece for a library, shelf, bedside table, mantle, man cave, study or office- pretty much anywhere. It can certainly be used as a bookend as intended but it’s also looks really nice on it’s own.

When researching about them- it seems that Martini utilized the armor bronze clad method to make these. The few pairs available to see online all look different which is kind of fun. It weighs in at an impressive 3 lbs 8.5 oz- so it’s extremely sturdy.

This one isn’t without wear- but overall for being produced in 1937 I’d say it’s in decent shape. There are some scuffs/marks and one dog’s tail is missing the tip. I have done my best to photograph the imperfections but truly they don’t take away from the great look of this piece.

The back is marked with “C 1937 D Martini” but it’s very difficult to accurately photograph that.
