Antique Japanese sword KOTO - WAKIZASHI in Shirasaya mounting.

The blade is a KOTO period blade, late Muromachi period about 1500-1573.
It is in great condition. No fatal flaws, there is some minor kizu.

The blade is made out of TAMAHAGANE, the iron ore that's been used in old Japan to make swords.

It is shobu-zukuri shape with a very nice curve.

It has a beautiful wavy hamon - gunome-midare hamon and very good polish.

It has straight ITAME hada - grain.

It has a simple Honoki (Japanese magnolia wood)  shirasaya scabbard.

The habaki is made out of copper with cat scratch pattern. It's a later date, probably early Edo.

It is a beautiful sword and a excellent piece of Japanese history.

It would be great to add to any Japanese antiques collection.
