Old Master Painting school of Salvator Rosa.

I have had this painting now for maybe 7 years bought it from a seller on ebay who had attributed it to Salvator Rosa. He said there was a faint signature on the back. I could never find any evidence on my own. There is a partial label at the top in the back that has some numbers (perhaps inventory).

It could perhaps due with a cleaning as it is pretty dark (I heard oils can darken). I didn't touch it restoration-wise. I like the aged look. There is some evidence of in painting and touch up over the years (possibly previous owners). It does look somewhat reminiscent of Rosa's artwork. I have seen a few of his paintings throughout the years at different museums and it has characteristics of those works.

I am not an art historian however I do have a background in art (sculpture) and I like to collect and at the time I purchased this I thought and still think it is a mysterious painting and a suspenseful scene. It reminds me of Breughel a bit. I listed it as 18th century but it could be older.

I will list it close to what I paid for it.

There is some craquelure and crazing in spots.
