Peggy Whiting Lamp Base

A lamp base with applied relief scene of a cottage and its garden of flowers, the fence, and many tall trees. Incised signature just under the cord exit hole. The piece has two hairline cracks as shown, and age-related crazing, no chips.

Peggy Whiting (1892-1962) trained at Melbourne Technical College (now RMIT) from 1935 – 1940 under Klytie Pate. She produced many earthenware domestic pieces such as jugs, bowls and vases and some figurines between 1935 & 1950. One of her fellow potters and co-exhibitors was Lady Brookes (Later Dame Mabel) who had a kiln in the backyard of her home Kurneh in Domain Rd, South Yarra. Whiting was a talented potter, her pieces continue to give pleasure and rarely come to the market. This is a wonderful and special piece, unique.

Size: 16 cm high, 15 cm across, weight 1.5 Kg

Please examine the pictures, they complete the description. While I do my best to reproduce the true colours of the pieces, they will vary slightly from system to system, and in actual viewing they will vary under differing lighting. All white spots are purely light reflections from the camera flash.
