On offer today...
An old, MEIJI ERA (1868-1912) hand painted, JAPANESE  lacquer tray.

Featuring a hand painted design of stylised birds amongst flowers and a crane 'mon'. The decoration is in the asymmetrical style favoured by the Japanese around the late 1800's.

Made circa 1890, Japan.

There are many signs of wear* - mostly to the sides of the tray - including a shallow hairline to one side. The beautiful red/orange lacquered surface, decorated in gold (hira maki-e urushi) shows light wear but generally DISPLAYS BEAUTIFULLY.

Original hand painted lacquer COLOURS are STRONG with little or no fading.

Looks great on display as a backdrop for any collection of Japanese art or craft, or for use as a drink or tea tray.

Measures approx.  40cm  x  40cm x 4cm
Weighs  1 kilo before packing.

*The detailed photos provided reflect the condition well and form an important part of the description.
Condition is commensurate with age and the heavy use of this delicate material  over the 120 years or more, of its life. However, it remains a beautiful example of Japanese design!
