A friend is unarmed against his friend. He has no shield before his breast, nor armor before his heart. A friend who believes in his friend is a defenseless man. A defenseless man was it whom you betrayed, Jan.

Here we offer the highly-collectible first English-language edition of Thea von Harbou's classic, Metropolis, published by Reader's Library, London. The edition is undated, but it was published in 1927 to coincide with the release of Fritz Lang's cinematic treatment, considered one of the greatest films ever made. The book comes wrapped in a professional facsimile of its original art deco dust jacket.

Boards are worn (please see pics). Endpapers are uninscribed. Typical for this edition is age-toned pulp and dry glue-binding that will come apart if handled roughly. This copy retains its tight binding.  Very clean and crisp text. 250 pages; measures approximately 6.75 x 4.5-inches. Dust jacket comes sleeved in ph-neutral Mylar and ready to slip into your collection.

This very special, iconic first will make a great addition to your collection or very special gift!
