1931 print ad for Leica Cameras, one of which was taken by Sir Hubert Wilkins (1888-1958) to the North Pole via the submarine Nautilus in 1931. The Leica was the official camera for the trip. The Nautilus was the first submarine to travel to the Poles. The expedition did not go smoothly, and the vessel and crew started to return without completing their scientific mission. Wilkins ultimately sunk the sub offshore of Norway after the Nautilus was irreparably damaged during a serious storm at port.

*The Leica's features included the Elmar Anastigmat F3:5 lens and a shutter that allowed exposures of 1/20 to 1/500 of a second. The camera was also pocketsized and took 36 photos on a roll of film
