Description:


First editions of Vols. I & II only, two further volumes being published the following year (1853). Bound in green half calf and cloth-covered boards, spines with elaborate gilt tooling, gilt lettering on morocco labels. All edges marbled. Externally, both volumes remain sound and firm, a little wear to extremities, significant scuffing to calf on boards, discolouration to cloth on lower board of Vol. II. Internally, both volumes also sound and firm. Marbled endpapers, clean without bookplates etc. Foxing to front/rear blanks and first/last leaves. Pages otherwise lightly age-toned else generally clean and tidy throughout.
