DESCRIPTION

This is an absolutely stunning vintage dress and opera coat set from the late 20s - early  30s made by Odum, Bowers & White of Birmingham. The dress is made out of a jet black silk velvet.  The dress does not have a lining.  The dress has puffy cap sleeves made out of a creamy ivory white acetate, and the sleeves are covered in off white sequins.  The bodice of the dress is fitted with a gathered accent running down the center of the chest.  The skirt of the dress has a flared A-line cut with a wide sweep at the bottom.  The dress closes with a row of metal snap buttons down the side seam.

The coat is also made out of black silk velvet.  The coat is fully lined in off white satin.  The coat closes with two buttons on the chest.

CONDITION

This set is definitely still wearable, but it does have some flaws.  On the dress, I noticed a few missing sequins along the edge of one of the sleeves.  The velvet of the dress is crushed a bit in places.  Also, when I held the fabric of the dress up to a bright light, I saw some scattered pinhead holes in the velvet.  The holes are really tiny, and I couldn't really see them from the outside.  The coat is in a bit rougher shape.  The velvet has quite a few speckled marks on it, and the lining has discolored marks throughout it.  I also noticed a tiny tear in the velvet on the coat, but the tear is hidden when the coat is buttoned.  I think the tear may be the result of the button being moved over to give the waist a more fitted look. The set also has a slight musty smell from being in storage. The last 6 pictures show examples of the flaws to this set.

The large majority of the items in my store are vintage and/or pre-owned.  I will list any major flaws in the item description.  However, most vintage clothing has been around for several decades or more, and it may have some minor snags in the fabric, the occasional loose thread or other minimal signs of wear.  Vintage items may also have raw seams that have not been serged.  By purchasing, you are accepting that these items are used and may not be 100% perfect.
