An antique, 19th-century, Qing or Ch'ing Dynasty Chinese scent purse, incense purse, or perfume pouch ("shou"), in red silk with gold bullion thread filigree embroidery of auspicious symbols, in a double gourd or vase shape. Small opening at the top and on one of the middle sides. This purse is one of a pair that would have been suspended from a sash-like belt ("chaodai") worn around the waist of a Manchu man's court coat. 4.5"x6", not including top cord. c. 1890-1900. Very good condition to silk and embroidery, but the central drawstring cord is missing.
