A vintage "katsina" ("katchina", "kachins") of the deer dancer or "Sowi-Ingwa" in the style and traditional Native American lore, a dance figure who ensures that game is plentiful and there are sufficient snows for a good harvest. Papier mache, wood, fabric, sequins, rickrack. The figure is also present in Japanese, Tamil Indian, Mayan, and Central American cultures - this one is possibly from the latter. 5ʺW × 3.5ʺD × 11ʺH. Very good condition. The antlers have a little bit of wear, as shown.
