Vintage 1948 - 1950 Hard to Find Painted Eye Early Strung Ginny : Hard Plastic Version (not the Composition Toddles)

Beautiful Strung Doll with Blonde Side Part Mohair Wig

Comes with 1953 Ice Skater Set with Skates : TAGGED

The Ginny is from 1948 - 1950. She is the painted eye, hard plastic version that is strung. She is not the earlier Toddles that was made of Composition. She is the earliest version of the Ginny before they came with sleep eyes. She is a very pretty doll with minimal flaws. The wig is made of blonde mohair with side part and flip curls. The hair is a bit messy and could use a little taming. The wig is nice and thick with no thinning spots. She is marked Vogue on the back of her neck and Vogue Doll on her upper back. Her face is nice. She has good brows, painted eyes in blue and dark red lip paint. There is not a lot of cheek color. She does have a couple of light scratches and one small indention on her cheek. She is a strung doll who might need restringing as her head likes to tilt. She has her complete set of fingers. She does not have any cracks and is actually very nice. Ginny does have some bluish marks on the front and back of left leg. The marks aren't major but they are there. I didn't attempt to clean them. She is one of the best versions of this doll that I've seen.

Outfit:

She comes with a vintage 1953 Vogue Ginny Set. It would not have been hers originally as it's from 1953 and was actually made for a strung sleep eye version. However, it was with her (not on her) when I received her, so it will leave with her. This outfit was not on the doll and she does NOT have any red or pink stains.

The set is #50 Ice Skater from 1952-1953. It's a red velveteen ice skating costume with attached cream white fur and silver rickrack trim. The white fur has browned a bit with age. The silver rick rack has turned shiny pink as opposed to silver. I assume this happened due to the red coloring of the costume. There are three pieces to the skater set plus the ice skates.

The headpiece looks pretty good. It's made of the red velveteen material with the cream white fur trim. The original elastic chin strap is in place. It's likes to slide up when placed on Ginny's head. The chin strap does have some thin spots but it's still fully intact.

The ice skating dress does have some issues. The red velveteen material has wear and the top fuzzy layer is flaking off. There are several spots where it's no longer fuzzy. The silver rick rack on the bodice has turned pink. The silver rick rack near the fur is still silver. The fur trim is pretty good without a lot of thinning. The back of the dress closes with a hook and eye. The dress is TAGGED. The tag says Vogue in blue on thin white rayon tag. According to my book, this tag was used for the 1952 dolls. However, the outfit is shown on page 103 as a 1953 outfit. This picture is in Collector's Encyclopedia of Vogue Dolls by Judith Izen and Carol Stover. The tag has now pinkish red instead of white due to the color of the skating set.

The original skating pants for underneath the dress are also present. They also have lots of wear and the fuzzy red velveteen is flaking off. The rick rack also turned pink. The panties are a little loose at the waist but not too bad.

Lastly, the ice skates are also present. They are cream white (browned with age). They do have fuzzy bottoms but are slip on with no kind of snaps. Both shoes have their silver colored metal skate blades. The shoe portions do have some wear / dirty spots and tiny tears or cracking. The material of the uppers are fuzzy velveteen material.

Overall .. It's a really nice set.

I will securely package the doll and she will come nude. The outfit will be sent in it's own baggy so as to not rub off on the doll.

The items will be sent in a small box.

I take many photos so be sure you check them all.
