Lot of 4 ~ Royal Canadian Air Force (R.C.A.F.) WWII Active Service Covers ~ England to Toronto, Canada


During WWII Canadian overseas postal units used British Field Post Office postal hammers with or without accompanying Canadian postal hammers.

No postage was required on active service mail.


Clockwise from top left:

1. British Field Post Office 595 / Canadian Field Post Office SC 62 serviced R.C.A.F. personnel posted at East Moor Air Field, North Yorkshire, England.

BFPO 595 postmark dated July 3, 1943; back stamped with date stamp "Officer
Commanding Royal Air Force Station - - - - - ".
(RAF Station locations were removed from the rubber stamp for security reasons)

BFPO 595 / CFPO SC 62 opened May 1943 and closed November 1945.




2. British Field Post Office 668 / Canadian Field Post Office SC 56 serviced R.C.A.F. Bomber Command personnel posted at Leeming Air Field , North Yorkshire, England.

BFPO 668 cancel on the face dated Aug 20, 1943; rubber stamped on the back "Royal Canadian Air Force, Orderly Room, Station Post Office".

BFPO 668 / CFPO Sc 56 opened Jan. 1943 and closed June 1946.



3. British Field Post Office 672 / Canadian Field Post Office SC 57 serviced R.C.A.F. personnel posted at Dishforth Air Base, North Yorkshire, England.

Service club "On Active Service" stationery with BFPO 672 cancel on the face dated July 17, 1945.

BFPO 672 / CFPO SC 57 opened Feb. 1943 and closed July 1945.




4. British Field Post Office 18 / Canadian Field Post Office SC 60 serviced R.C.A.F. personnel based at Dalton Air Field, North Yorkshire, England.

BFPO 18 cancel on the face dated Sept. 8 1943;
"Posted at an R.C.A.F. Station" rubber stamp on back

BFPO 18 / CFPO SC 60 opened June 1943 and closed Sept. 1945.
