Adele Bloch-Bauer, a wealthy Viennese woman, commissioned Klimt to create her portrait.

The most striking feature is the lavish use of gold. Klimt depicted Adele Bloch-Bauer in a sea of golden tones, giving her an almost divine glow. The gold foil applied to the painting gives it unique depth and luminosity.

His work of art, often referred to as the “Golden Adele”, is an icon of Viennese Art Nouveau.

GUSTAV KLIMT died on 6 Februrar 1918, and is buried here: Hietzing Cemetery, A-1130 Vienna/Austria.
