This is a hard-to-find Daniel Riccio "Sweet Pea" miniature bell, a 2001 rework of his original 1988 design. The bell is cast using silicon bronze, an alloy of copper and silicon. Riccio bells are created using the "lost wax" casting technique and have amazing detail for their small size.

FROM THE ARTIST

"The Sweat Pea Bell was one of my early bells. It has a tall traditional shape - which can produce a strong tone. I carved the sweet peas as a relief on the sides, and made a vine like arrangement of forget me not's on the handle.

In early Chinese bells there was often an opening to allow the sound to move more freely. I made an opening in the front of the bell where the upper flower emerges from the bottom."

CONDITION

Excellent pre-owned condition with a sweet ring. There is a casting imperfection at the bell's mouth (refer to last photo).
