This amazing Huipil was woven in the community of San Bartolo Yautepec on the coast of Oaxaca.  These huipiles woven by Zapotec women on back strap looms are truly extraordinary.   The weaving is extremely fine and highly detailed. This huipil was woven by a woman named Margarita Martinez Jimenez.  Each garment can take several months to weave, as a result they are highly valued by collectors....   The Dyes used to weave this Kaftan are all natural.  The base brown color is made from the bark of the cacahuananche tree and the brown brocade work is made from the nanche tree and the blue is made from the indigo plant.  Look closely at the details you will see all sorts of Birds, Deer, Flowers and Corn woven into the fabric....
