Dogon region photography book, Claude Lefevre

Titled "Pays Dogon: Photographies de Claude Lefevre", this is a 1972 French-language hardcover publication by Chene of the photography of Claude Lefevre. It includes 190+ photographs of the Dogon peoples and their environment (housing, daily activities, celebrations, landscape) taken in the mid-20th century.

This is a valuable reference work for those interested in African cultures, C20th century photography, and the history of the Dogon peoples. It would be a good background source for collectors of West African art, especially of the Dogon peoples.

13in x 10in; 164 pages; hardcover; published 1972 by Chene; four-page preface by Genevieve Calame-Griaule; photographs presented in chapters (on myths, women in the Dogon society, daily life, and religion), each with a short text introduction.

In generally good condition. Tight binding and crisp clean pages. A small bump to the lower right corner, some wear to the dust cover at the top of the spine, and some minor scrapes to the glossy gray dustcover (see photos). But presents well for a book of this age and rarity. I have found only one other copy for sale (at $65 on Abebooks).
