On offer: an original (i.e. not a later reproduction) scarce book "An attempt to ascertain the age of the church of Mickleham, in Surrey, with Remarks on the Architecture of That Building." by Robinson, P F Published by Carpenter and Son, London, 1824.

DATE PRINTED: 1824, dated on the title page.

SIZE: Medium (300 x 240 mm). 31, [1] pages, additional lithographic title plate, 19 lithographic plates and in-text tipped-in illustrations.

PROVENANCE:  This is the architect, P.F. Robinson's, scarcest work, an attempt to justify restoration of the Mickleham Church, which he did in 1822 and 1823. He rebui the nave in a neo-Norman manner to match the existing Norman chancel and replaced Georgian pews with "stalls." Robinson learned architectural design and draughtsmanship as a pupil of Henry Holland and, between 1795 and 1798, worked as an assistant to William Porden, before establishing a practice in his own right.  An early example of the use of lithography in book illustration. The plates by Hullmandel were printed in the same year as his 'Art of Drawing on Stone' was published. Contemporary half red calf, which has been rebacked, with gilt titling to spine, marbled boards. Some rubbing, wear to covers, armorial bookplate of Revd.
