We are delighted to offer this beautiful 15ct gold Victorian shell cameo made c.1890.

The cameo features a delightful peach-like colour with the figural head being intricate and elegantly engraved.

Despite its small and compact size, the detailing of the facial features, hair and overall 'crispness' are very impressive and a testament to the quality & craftsmanship of this Victorian cameo.

For example, with a closer look at the base of the neck, you can find that she is wearing a pearl necklace which tapers in size, this extra detailing truly shows how much artisanal qualities can be found even in a small form factor.

In addition to its intricacy, it is perhaps the height and contrast of the white relief that makes for a particularly beautiful and distinguished cameo.

We believe that unlike other jewellery forms (such as rings & gem cuts etc) cameos present a unique medium for artisans to showcase their artistic skills and techniques, slightly closer to the likes of paintings and sculptures. As such, the more elegant, lifelike and endearing an engraving is, it tends to become more valuable and desirable.

The border and frame are made from solid 15ct antique gold and feature a lovely twisted rope design with the gold-tone further elevating the splendour and majestic appearance of this brooch.

The reverse side of the brooch features a c-clasp pin.

Practical in size, classically elegant and a conversation starter; we believe such brooches are not only collectable antiques but an excellent accoutrement to your wardrobe.

When paired with shirts, jumpers or coats this brooch would make for an ideal addition or gift to a lucky and discerning jewellery lover.

The brooch is unmarked as is common with pieces of the period however we have tested it for 15ct+ high-carat gold.

All of our jewellery come with a complimentary hard shell gift box with a velvet interior.
