Collectible and Rare Hap Sakwa original Pop Art mixed media coffee pot sculpture, c. 1992. The coffee pot features a collage of ceramic tiles and marbles assembled on a wood base, one side depicting the character Dick Tracy, the other Betty Boop, piece is signed and dated on handle Hap Sakwa 6/92 (June of 1992). Measures 10 ½” high x 9 ½” long spout to handle and is in Exceptional condition with no losses noted. A wonderful and collectible piece of Americana Pop Art!
‘Hap Sakwa (b. 1950) is an American sculptor and commercial photographer. In the 1970s and 1980s, he was a leader in the modern woodworking movement that revolutionized the craft, elevating it to an art form creating narrative sculptural objects using polychromed woods and found objects. From 1988 until 1993, Sakwa turned another artistic corner producing a series of pop art mosaic and found object sculptures juxtaposing Americana imagery, word play and bright colorful patterns. In 1994 he turned his attention to photography becoming one of the country’s most distinguished jewelry photographers with images featured on the covers and in editorial compositions of leading books and periodicals regarding the art and craft jewelry.’
