Do not meddle in the affairs of wizards, for they are subtle and quick to anger.

Here we offer the first US retail edition, stated "Sixteenth Impression" of the J.R.R. Tolkien classic, The Fellowship of the Ring, published by Houghton Mifflin, Boston. The book is undated, but it was printed in 1965, attested to by a variety of sources, including tolkienbooks.us, which features a thorough guide to these difficult-to-place varied unusually limited printings.  This is the first book of Tolkien's iconic Lord of the Rings trilogy. The book comes wrapped in the highest quality facsimile of the first edition dust jacket, printed on coated heavyweight bond. The polymer coating on the paper ensures the brightest colors and sharpest prints, as the ink sits atop the paper rather than being absorbed into the fibers.

Boards are lightly edgeworn and soiled; spine is a bit faded. Intact endpapers are uninscribed and tanned. Binding is very tight and square; the text and illustrations are very clean, bright, and crisp. The large fold-out map is in excellent shape. 423 pages. Measures approximately 9 x 6-inches. The dust jacket comes sleeved in ph-neutral mylar, ready to slip into your collection.

This classic first will make a wonderful addition to your collection or a very special and thoughtful gift.
