DATE PRINTED: 1829. Dated 1828 on the print, the date of engraving.

SIZE: The printed area including titles is approximately 15.5 x 11 cm (6 x 4.25 inches) plus margins with a blank back (small).   

ARTIST/CARTOGRAPHER/ENGRAVER: Engraved by Samuel Rawle from an original drawing by William Westall A.R.A. William Westall ARA (12 October 1781 – 22 January 1850) was an English landscape artist best known as one of the first artists to work in Australia. 

PROVENANCE: Produced for William Westall's 'Great Britain Illustrated: A Series of Original Views from Drawings by William Westall, A.R.A. Engraved by, and under the direction of, Edward Finden, With Descriptions by Thomas Moule' (London: Tilt, 1829).

TYPE: Antique steel plate engraving printed on paper. 

VERSO: There is nothing printed on the reverse side, which is blank.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:  Kendal anciently known as Kirkby in Kendal or Kirkby Kendal, is a market town and civil parish within the South Lakeland District of Cumbria, England. Historically in Westmorland, it is situated about 8 miles (13 km) south-east of Windermere, 19 miles (31 km) north of Lancaster, 23 miles (37 km) north-east of Barrow-in-Furness and 38 miles (61 km) north-west of Skipton. The town lies in the valley or "dale" of the River Kent.
