Collectible Dorothy Trujillo (1932 - 1999) Cochiti Pueblo Pottery Storyteller featuring four children all hand-painted, base is signed Dorothy Trujillo Cochiti NM. Measures 4 3/4" high x 2 1/2" long x 2" wide and is in Excellent condition free of breaks or chips, with the exception of two small nicks to the foot of one child as shown.  

Dorothy Trujillo was born on April 26, 1932 into Laguna/Jemez culture but married into Cochiti where she developed into a remarkable creator of clay art. Her pottery repertoire includes polychrome jars, bowls, storytellers and nativity figures. Her storytellers, often large with many children exude a Helen Cordero aura.

Before her death in the 1990's, Dorothy's pottery had been distinguished by a number of awards in prestigious competitions throughout the Southwest, including the Santa Fe Indian Market. She has made large storytellers and Nativity sets on commission, and one of her storytellers is on exhibit at the Smithsonian Institution, Museum of Natural History, Washington, D.C.
