Measures about 20" tall, with bouncy ringlets and big blue side glancing glass eyes. This Dolly Dingle doll has a secret. In addition to being a limited edition porcelain doll created by famous designer Bette Ball, this dolly is also a music box. Reached by lifting up her blouse from behind is the winding key for the music box that is hidden inside. The Swiss made music box plays, “Hello Dolly”. Works and plays great. Just wind her up on her back.  She wears a lacy dress, a pink hair bow and carries a pink purse. One small flaw. The tip of her black shoe strap is broken. See all photos.

This version of Dolly is a large doll that weighs approx. 4 pounds. She is number 468 of a limited edition of only 1,000 that was issued in 1986. The Goebel brand and the name of the designer are printed on the back of the doll's body. The head, hands and feet are porcelain. The rest of the doll is cloth. She is about 19 inches tall.

History:

Bette Ball, a well-known doll artist, created Dolly Dingle dolls of bisque with glass eyes and wigs during the 80s for House of Global Arts. Dolly Dingle is a contemporary of Rose O’Neill’s Kewpies. She resembles the Kewpies,  and has the same fat, rosy cheeks, and wide, almost googly side-glancing eyes, but where most of the Kewpies are cherubs or babies, Dolly is a little girl.

Dolly Dingle began her existence as a paper doll character and later became famous as a newspaper comic strip character. The right to turn Dolly into a real doll belongs to Goebel Arts of Germany. That company hired Ball. Goebel is the same company that produces the Hummel porcelain figures.

This doll has a gorgeous face with big googly eyes.  No box and very  sweet collectible doll.
