This stunning covered vegetable dish is a rare find from S. Kirk & Son Co., featuring the intricate Repousse pattern in sterling silver. The Victorian style piece was crafted by the renowned maker between 1896-1924, making it a true antique treasure.

This vegetable/entrée dish features a beautiful chased floral design that covers both the lid and base. The rim of the top and base are intricately adorned as well. The handle on the lid is removable, allowing the top to be used as a bowl, if desired (see photos). Marked "S. Kirk & Son Co." and "925/1000, 242 F” on base. Its base is monogrammed “Madie T. Houghlett” in flowing script.

This private estate piece measures 10 1/2" long, 7 1/4" wide and 5 1/2" high. It weighs 29.95 ounces.

The silver has beautiful original patina and is in very good estate condition. There are a couple of expected surface scratches on the flat interior of the base and minor scratches on the bottom from normal use. There is a ding on the bottom of the base that should be apparent in the photos.

The iconic "Repousse" pattern by S. Kirk & Son made its debut in 1828, making it the oldest Sterling Silver pattern produced in the United States. It remains to this day one of the most popular patterns ever created. To create this pattern, the Philadelphia trained silversmith Samuel Kirk revived an ancient technique known as "repousse" to create an embossed design that is both versatile and instantly recognized.
