Rare 9ct gold & enamel football medal presented to a player or official of Brechin City FC as they won the Scottish Second Division Championship , the 3rd tier of Scottish football, in the season 2004 - 05. The club won the League with 72 points, 11 ahead of their nearest rivals, Stranraer.

In terms of league honours, the club has won the Second Division Championship on three occasions in 1982 - 83, 1989 - 90 & 2004 - 05. The 2004 - 05 medal therefore represents the last time the club won a Scottish League Championship.

The club has also won one Scottish Division Three (tier 4) Championship in the season 2001 - 02.

The front of the medal depicts the Scottish Lion Rampant picked out in red enamel. It is embossed "SCOTTISH FOOTBALL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP" picked out in blue enamel.

The obverse is engraved:

"SECOND DIVISION WINNERS 2004 - 05".

It is not known who the recipient of the medal was.

Included with the medal is a printout of the Final 2004 - 05 League Table for the Scottish Second Division confirming Brechin City as Champions.

9ct Gold Medal: Weight: 15.8 gm. Diameter: 38 mm. Hall Mark: Sheffield 2005. Maker's Mark: RH.

Brechin City FC: The club was founded in 1906 and was admitted to the Scottish League in 1923 with the formation of the original Third Division. It dropped out of the League at the end of the 1925 - 26 season but was re-admitted for the 1929 - 30 season.

The club has tended to struggle for most of its League history and in the 1975 - 75 season was placed in the new Division Two, the 3rd tier of the restructured League. Eventually the club won its first League Championship in 1982 - 83 but were again relegated to Division Two a few seasons later. In 1989 - 90 they won their second Division Two title although they were immediately relegated the following season. In the season 2001 - 02 Brechin City won the Division Three Championship and were promoted to Division Two. They went on to win their final title in the season 2004 - 05 (the medal for sale).

Into more modern times and things were getting bad for Brechin City; in the season 2017 - 18 they became the first senior Scottish side in 126 years to fail to win a single game all season. Eventually Brechin City were playing for their Scottish League lives and on 23rd May 2021 they lost 3 - 1 on aggregate to Lowland League side, Kelty Hearts so dropped down to the Highland League, their first spell out of the national league in 67 years.

The club currently competes in the Highland Football League.

Summary: As can be seen from the photos & history (above) this is a rare & collectable medal. Good luck!
