Beautiful woman in a white dress dreamily gazes at the viewer. Very early circa 1842 1/6th plate (2.75 x 3.25") attributed to Samuel Broadbent*. It could be reasonably conjectured that this more primitive daguerreotype precedes chronologically, the use of his famous painted backdrop. The plate itself is heavy stock, flat with square corners and no hallmark. I believe there are telltale signs of the plate holder around the perimeter which could indicate use of a Wolcott camera. She resides in a plain leather half case. Professionally resealed with P-90 archival tape and new glass. Condition as seen including areas of tarnish.  White dots are likely dust that fell into the heavy varnish during production. Should be considered in excellent condition for its age.

*See sample Broadbent daguerreotype for wooden table (with books) comparison, note similar lighting too. While Broadbent is identified as the maker of that daguerreotype by his unique and well known backdrop, it is not included in this lot.
